How to visit

Welcome

When active reconstruction work is not underway, the Edwards Store site may be visited. However, we ask all to be respectful of the property. No metal detecting or taking of anything other than your own photographs of the site is permitted.

Our neighbors keep a close eye on the site and any persons vandalizing the site will be prosecuted. (The sheriff is one of our supporters!)

For your own safety please stay to the perimeter of the structure. The porch and interiors of the cabin are dangerous.

Finding the cabin

The Edwards Store is located seven miles northeast of present day Red Oak, Oklahoma. Take State Highway 82 north of town and turn east onto the Norris Valley Road to reach the site.

We kindly ask you leave us your name and email at the welcome kiosk at the parking area at the entrance from the Norris Valley Road. We like to know who is as interested in historical preservation as we are.

Cecil Holcomb of Back Roads History Tours tells the story of the cabin in a recent tour of historical sites in southeastern Oklahoma.
State Rep. James Grego admires the craftmanship of the cabin that has stood for five generations. The axe marks of the hand hewn logs constructed in 1850 are still visible.
Local Butterfield Overland Stage historian Earl Shero explains the role the Edwards Store had as a meal stop for the stage during the period before the Civil War.
